A Few Thoughts at the End of the Year

Allow me a few thoughts at the end of the year. It was a terrible year in many aspects, we all were shaken by the sudden death of our dear Éva, and we really miss her voice for a free Hungary. We have also seen in how many aspects the Hungarian regime more and more cemented its power, divided the society further, and spied on the Hungarians. But we also saw that those who are not fascinated by our fascist regime finally agreed to work together and buried rivalry and personal ambitions – hopefully deep enough.

We are at the start of a year that definitely will be interesting. A major decision will be whether the Hungarian people will be able to gain the power back. In times that are not only determined by the virus of hateful propaganda, but also another virus that is threatening our health, while our government is completely incapable to take the needed decisions, because they might be unpopular and the coward in the várszínház cares about power only and not about our health.

I wish all of you a happy New Year, especially stay healthy!

Thank you István! Best wishes to you and all the readers of your new blog. I hope it gets more and more readers! And yes let’s hope this regime is defeated. But that’s up to the Hungarians to decide. In spite of all the cheating it seems too many people are too complacent with this situation. May they open their eyes in 2022.

BTW, I saw the other day in Békásmegyer a signature drive to start a referendum to decide if Fundan University should go ahead or be stopped; many people were queuing up to sign so let’s hope they succeed.

Yes the opposition already has 50,000-55,000 signatures at the moment but they need another 150,000 by mid-January to get the questions on the referendum. For those of you who are Hungarian citizens and live in the country, make sure you sign the referendum right away – don’t put it off!
Happy new year to everyone!

Happy New Year to All, I always like to be optimistic (hopefully not too naive), but it would be fantastic if 2022 turns out to be the year when FIDESZ (the “Young Democrats”, who are certainly no longer young 😉 at least) lose their 12-year grip on power. 12 years is too long for any single government to stay in power, especially one that treats the country like it owns it…

So this article today https://magyarnemzet.hu/belfold/2021/12/amerikai-befektetoknek-is-el-akartak-adni-a-varoshazat is a continuation of the endless story of the supposed attempt by Gergely Karácsony to sell off Budapest City Hall this time to horror of horrors “American investors” who are never named in the article. Apparently Magyar Nemzet knows who these intrepid US real estate investors are because they have secret tape recording of everything, who supposedly made these tapes are not disclosed in the article.

Here in the USA indeed major urban centers have sold off public property to investors and in the case of Chicago, major toll roads, and the very meters used to pay for parking in high density areas of the city (see https://www.bettergov.org/news/chicagos-parking-meter-deal-a-lesson-in-worst-practices). With the pandemic the amount of street parking had declined in Chicago and the revenues for the company but the company still makes money. Currently the State of Illinois building in downtown Chicago is up for sale (see https://apnews.com/article/chicago-illinois-0b2ee4423fcb2ab57cc7aafa3ec96f06). Really such moves are an act of desperation on the part go local units of government to quickly generate revenue without increasing direct taxes on the public, the public of course pays the costs in the long run.

The Fidesz government really has no problem at all in selling off public proprety to private investors as long as those investors include Oligarchs tied to Orban so money gets kicked back. Eva over the years devoted several articles to these schemes particularly in the last few years scandalous affairs surrounding Lőrinc Mészáros. Magyar Nemzet counts on the public being stupid, I am sure if indeed US investors were going to buy Budapest City Hall and likely lease it back to the city government the Fidesz connected oligarchs were hot about the idea because they did not get a cut of the deal. The hypocrisy in these articles in the Fidesz media is just amazing.

Ergo there is no “case of the City Hall” other than the effort by the regime’s propaganda machine to sweat out one.

Thank you so much for continuing Eva`s legacy.
I will read the posts avidly.
Happy New Year to all in Evas community of commentators who, like me, are hoping for the return of democracy in Hungary, and an end to the mafia regime, with its arrogance, greed and entitlement.
