Hacked
Since yesterday late in the afternoon I have experienced strange things on hungarian.news. Since the server remained up all the time according to the host provider I suspected an attack onto the website itself and I have removed all Word Press content together with the relevant directory. When I tried to look up yesterday’s logfiles today I learned that the integrity of Word Press has obviously not been damaged, but that someone got access to the host provider and damaged things there, which made hungarian.news increasingly inaccessible. This was definitely not caused by human or technical error, but deliberately. This was about a section that is only changed together with several other things and otherwise left alone. And the entry contained a mistake – the hacker had problems with spelling the value correctly. That made it a bit easier to identify.
Access to Word Press and the host provider are separated technically and by different ways of login. Accessing the account on the host provider side does not expose the data in the comment section, so the emails in the comment section weren’t accessible by the hacker.
It is remarkable that this small website, where just a few news from Hungary are presented to an international public, facts that mainly are available in Hungarian language, seem to be a danger to someone. To someone in panic.
