“I Find it Strange to Attack the Russians”

Last UPDATED 16:18 – No, no Russian official said so, but a high ranked FIDESZ member. He said in full: “I find it already strange that someone is not expressing his solidarity with the Ukrainians in this situation, but attacking the Russians instead. …. I would think we should be standing in favour of the Ukrainians, the territorial integrity of Ukraine, the security of Ukraine: this is the case, which is at stake, not about judging about Putin personally.” This is the unbelievable statement Kósa Lajos made in the front of an RTL camera ►HU. He is not only MP for Debrecen, but also “strategic adviser” of the foundation FIDESZ created for running the university of Debrecen ►HU. And exactly this university provided Putin with an honorary doctorate in 2017. Kósa felt now obliged to defend Putin from calls for deprivation of this title. Instead Gyurcsány should hand back his dog to Putin, when someone should return something. Well, the dog hit the media indeed in 2006, but not as present from, but for licking at the Russian president, as 444 reminded us ►HU. At least he fulfilled the obligation to say Gyurcsány into a camera. That Kósa is a very reasonable man some of you might remember. He made things our dear Éva found funny ►EN. And fun was not really the thing she often thought about when reporting about the stupid actions of FIDESZ bigwigs, but his experiences with an heiress sound very much like he met his own Nigerian prince.

The propaganda machine seems to concentrate on keeping the Russians out of the picture. This started with the statement of the foreign minister, while the regime media still did not report about Putin’s war. The state TV is again topping everything, the reporting is like that one of Russian state media. While I personally would exclude our “public” TV being directed from the Kremlin, it definitely is from the Várszínház, from Orbán’s Castle Theatre.

Now Péter Ungár (LMP) addressed questions to Dániel Papp, chief executive officer of state TV organisation MTVA, a man who may be titled as “news falsifier” according to Hungarian judges. Neither his employer nor the media council investigated his falsification, but the judges allowed using this title, because he did so without any doubt in case of “public” TV news and for such a success FIDESZ promoted him to lead the entire organisation.

According to Ungár, the state TV broadcasts in connection with Putin’s war in Ukraine “unadorned, context-free Russian propaganda material”. No presentation of opposing interpretations, no geopolitical analysis, but only the position of the Kremlin. “This can be done, but not with public money,” Ungár emphases ►HU.

The politician wants to know from Papp:

  1. Did you receive money from the Kremlin to serve their geopolitical interests?
  2. Did you have to report to an employee of the Russian embassy?
  3. In what form do you receive the instructions from Moscow to prepare the program?

A summery of the Russian propaganda programs in Hungarian state TV has been made by 444 ►HU:

The public media were obviously surprised by the war as well. It took understandably a long time after everyone, from Zsolt Bayer to András Bencsik, laughed at the possibility of war until the last moment.

According to MTV’s usual “expert” Georg Spöttle (yes, you remember correctly, he is the expert for UFOs ►HU,) the Russian soldiers marched calmly, professionally, understanding that there is no resistance, and only the Ukrainians mourned for something. The dangerous thing Zelensky did by calling Ukraine citizens to arm themselves. It is irresponsible, because both psychopaths and terrorists can get weapons. On the other hand, they are shooting at the Russians! Like Hitler, Volkssturm in 2022. He also presented a very good reason why the Russians were interested so much in the ruin of the nuclear power plant of Chernobyl: Occupy it that Ukraine can’t attack it!

György Nógrádi was also very straightforward. Russia, he said, had marched all the way to Kiev because they wanted to see a neutral leadership, Putin finally wants a pro-Ukrainian government in Ukraine now. While 444 called him the legendary rogue Professor, I would doubt that he is still sane. Otherwise, since his early days in communist secret service ►HU, he should got used to spread positive lies about Russia, such as “With Ukraine starting this war 24 hours ago and making an incredible statement, the Ukrainian leadership made sending UN peacekeepers there impossible.”

The only luck we have is that this news station – despite all costs for us as taxpayers – has no huge audience. Kósa’s refusal to mention Russia on RTL was seen many times more often.

UPDATE 13:13 – LMP has escalated the Russian propaganda in regime media to a complaint at the media council. Of course this is a FIDESZ organisation, but at least the complaint gets a little more publicity ►HU.

UPDATE 16:18 – Spöttle did it again. Today he called NATO not to attack Russia. He seems to have a short memory, because NATO declared so again and again, last time yesterday. But Spöttle has the solution: The Ukraine government should resign, because Putin says so ►HU. For those who don’t understand German, the name Spöttle is a diminutive form for mockery. Nomen est omen.

apologies for double posting but it seems more appropriate here:

Cyprus and Italy have now both agreed to cut Russia off from SWIFT transactions and it seems the only EU country now vetoing this sanction is …. Hungary

I sure the surviving veterans of 1956 for the most part are sick over the role Hungary is playing in all of this. So this Telex article https://telex.hu/kulfold/2022/02/26/zelenszkij-magyarorszag-swift-nemetorszag discusses the lies being put out by team Orban that they are not blocking the EU from cutting off Russia from Swift. It is just sickening to read these lies.

The Russians are pretty much doing what I expected them to do, massively destroying areas of armed resistance within Kiev. I have to say I am also sickened by the media in my own country discussing the tactics of the Russians being so brutal when they are used by militaries internationally in urban warfare, including the US Army. The truth is any army be it Israeli, US, Russian, or even the French when fighting in urban areas of Mali up to a few days ago when they withdrew, do similar things. We also all lie about killing civilians at least initially. They are normally discussed in terms of collateral damage.

The urban fighting in the Battle of Stalingrad where possibly up to 2 million died likely was the worst urban fighting in modern times. It’s a horror, and in this case Putin is killing for a vision of an Empire that will likely never be.

Istvan,

I will not deny how during WWII Klan members joined the war in the Pacific to legally and gleefully kill Japanese, and their grandkids still adore Hitler and deny the Holocaust.

That said, we should never lose sight of the following fact: Russia never got out of the superreligious, imperial stage of their existence. Many Russians genuinely view Ukrainians as Nazi supporters who need to be pacified just like during the Great Patriotic War.

To start with the MTVA Director P.Daniel and decision makers should be prosecuted and jailed for the max term of 10 years under Sec. 376.6.a Crim.code for the tens of billions used to support the ruling regime, something against the charter of the organization.
The same crime has been/is being committed in many other institutions incl, boards awarding EU or state funds the main trough feeding the Orbàn gang.

South Ukraine:

Russian tanks originating in Crimea approach Mariupol from the west, they are only 30 km from the town. The Ukrainian front line in the Donetsk region will soon collapse.

Other Russian units are close to the nuclear power plant ‘Zaporozhye’ in Energodar at the Dneper river.

Its website is already down. This power plant provides 43% of the electricity from atomic power generation in Ukraine.

“Governor of Mykolayiv Oblast Vitaly Kim says Russian tanks attacked Mykolayiv and were moving through the city. Heavy fighting was reported in Mykolayiv earlier on that day.”
One Russian tank column goes along the Crimea – Nikolaev (Mykolayv) – Odessa – Transnistria road, connecting the already Russian-controlled Crimea and Transnistria regions.

The other Russian tank column goes along the Crimea – Melitopol – Berdiansk – Mariuopol road, connecting the already Russian-controlled Crimea and Donetsk regions.

Putin is carving out “New Russia” from south Ukraine.

Has Orbán finally stopped supporting Russia? Was this one step too far even for him?

I have seen Orban’s statement and also the garbage put out by Spöttle. The latter, whilst irritating, is low level propaganda that Dr Herr Goebbels would have binned as even for his audience too primitive.
Orban’s statement explains his delay in responding openly until now. Whilst it clearly does not reflect his truly held position it throws a light on how the position is evolving. Poland is crucial to Orban in his EU struggles. He simply cannot afford to generate discord with them on this issue. However his language is that of a snake. He hides behind the notion that he will support what the others will agree. What he does not tell us is what his priorities are. Why not? Because he cannot without crossing the Poles. Still, if he agrees to pull Swift we have a different ballgame.
I just wonder how long his loyal general officers stay loyal if this drags on?

I was wondering whether the election campaign also had an influence, maybe he’s also worried about the political fallout from his close relationship with Putin and anti-EU policies?

Did Putin think the whole world would kneel before him? I still don’t understand Putin’s logic. If he has occupied or destroyed Ukraine and a large part of the world is against him, what is left for him after his “success”? … the rejection of the “world”?

Until now, I have always seen Putin as cold, calculating and brutal, but at least it was possible to follow his logic. I can’t understand the logic of this attack either.

This is mere speculation on my part, but around 2-3 years ago there was a rumour going around that he was terminally ill. So, two potentially crazy, speculative Pantanifan theories:
1) the rumours were true and he is looking to make himself immortal by re-creating “New Russia”
2) he has some kind of mental illness (maybe brought on by COVID?) and nobody in the “inner circle” dares to challenge him

That’s how I feel too, I lack logic that’s why I conclude maybe mental derangement that would finally explain the whole action which in turn leaves the end painfully open – if Putin wants to restore the old borders of the USSR.

Does the RA0277 Embraer Legacy 650 airplane belong to the Rahimkulov family?

The plane took off from Budapest at 8:16 PM today, flew around Czechia and Poland from the west and entered Russia through Latvian airspace.

(Officially, Latvia is already closed to Russian airplanes! This airplane is registered in Russia, but sometimes sports a “Royal Nepal Airlines” logo as well)

Recent flights:
February 20: Prague – Kazan
February 24: Kazan – Moscow (2 hour stay only) – Kazan
February 26: Kazan – Budapest (1 hour stay only) – likely Kazan.

An hour earlier, there was also another similar airplane, this one originated in Vienna, flew around Poland, through Latvia into Russia , RA02730 (Hawker 850XP)

As some of you know my daughter who is a US Army reserve officer is in Poland now assisting with Ukrainian war refugees. I talked with her about two hours ago. She said while thousands were coming to the temporary tent camp set up by 82nd airborne combat engineers, hundreds were leaving for many different EU nations too. So far they have not been overwhelmed. At least that is good news. She said she is not getting much sleep because of noisy drones flying all over the place. I asked what are the drones being used for? She said “ Dad that’s secret stuff” and laughed.

The answer is obvious. Drones can be used to destroy Russian columns of supply trucks.

They are used well in the north.
Unfortunately, there seem to be no drones in south Ukraine.
