The Hungarian government just submitted a bill that redraws the electoral districts of Hungary.
Budapest, where the ruling party is the least popular, will lose two seats and the newly gerrymandered districts inside the capital seem to be pretty uneven by population.

The election system in Hungary is a total hoax anyway!
When people ask me about democracy in Hungary I just tell them that:
Yes, Fidesz has a two thirds majority in parliament – but they only got 50% of the votes.
And ruling by decree for several years is another indicator.
My favourite story is Fidesz leaving parliament when something is supposed to be voted on which they don’t want to discuss – and then speaker K**** ends the session.
So automatically any country friendly to Hungary which might try similar stuff is unwanted in the EU – just think of Serbia etc. No chance for them …
Using data from 2022-03-31, we see that voters of Budapest will be worth much less than voters in the country side.
Tolna county: 59,000 voters —–> 1 seat in Parliament,
Somogy county: 62,000 voters —–> 1 seat in Parliament,
Pest county: 74,000 voters —–> 1 seat in Parliament,
Budapest: 80,000 voters —–> 1 seat in Parliament,

The Orban government is willing to raise the salaries of the judges only if the “Council of Judges” (OBT) submits to its demands.
Since the new leaders of the council are pro-Fidesz, and they keep their crucial meeting today (November 20, 2024) in a small provincial town (Gyula), and they do not let judges join the meeting remotely, the result is obvious:
the judges will lose their remaining independence from 2025.
In return to submitting to Orban’s blackmail, the judges will get a 48% pay raise.

One of the reasons Orban succeeded in building his dictatorship was that the independent judges and prosecutors were too cowardly stopping him in the beginning.
(selling his party headquarters in 1993, vineyard case in 1999 [?], enlarging the Constitutional court in 2010, canceling the constitution in 2011, etc.)
Unfortunately, I can see a similar development in the US.
The judge in the NY case does not dare to announce a verdict (it has nothing to do with Trump’s presidency, Trmp’s fraud happened much earlier) . Prosecutor Jack Smith asks the judge to dismiss Trump’s coup d’etat cases. Cowardliness. (it would be much better if Trump self-pardoned himself)

A few days ago, the new leadership of the “Council of Judges” submitted to the Orban regime in return for a pay raise.
The political appointee chairman of the “Kuria” (formerly Supreme Court) , András Varga Zs. (who had never been a judge) cast the decisive vote.
The same Varga Zs. suspended a judge today, because he did not like judge Kovács’s legal ruling.
