Here's what some sources think anout VO: 3 x Reddit: mostly left leaning, depicts Viktor Orbán (VO) in negative terms2…
Welcome
I would like to welcome everybody here on Hungarian News. This blog will live from the input of many. Who wants to tell us something about Hungary should feel free contact. As long as copyrights are not violated (especially with permission of the author) translations of interesting pieces are very welcome as well.
Concerning freedom of speech I would like to handle a wide interpretation. We are all adults here and should behave as those. On monitoring for hate speech I would take the human rights as guide. I can live with another “Orbán strong” statement, but not with humiliation of all who are against the regime. Those who have a voice to answer don’t need the same level of protection as those who have not. Of topic or not should not be the central question. What in the past has been off topic was so often the topic of the next days that it really should be welcomed! But it should all be useful content with at least some context with Hungary, if I may remind what happened on Hungarian Spectrum in the past a naked man worth writing about would have been a former MEP hanging at a gutter – not that nameless one a user was completely obsessed with.
For keeping the exchange of thoughts easy I want to avoid a registration of commentators. The 1st comment will not be published without moderation, thereafter it will be published immediately. This will make monitoring more difficult, but registration will prohibit too many to take part of a discussion in the Hungarian reality. To follow the heritage of Éva in the best sense registration seems no option to me. Although more work this would be the better option. Of course I will decide differently in case there will be the need to do so.
Since I am not available for a one-man-show a group of people should decide and guidelines will be needed. Common sense rules. Better to discuss a topic to the depth than to avoid discussion. As I said before: I will need your help.
Hey István, thanks a million for setting this up. I hope we can carry on discussing Hungarian politics and news for many years to come. Good luck with this new venture!
István, thank you very much!
I surely hope that you and us can continue in the legacy of our dear Eva.
And now let’s wait for the people to join us – trolls excluded of course … 🙂
Wonderful! Congratulations Istvan!
Sounds all positively democratic.
Thank you so much for setting this up!
Thank you very much for your work. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your efforts.
István, this is excellent news! Thank you very much for setting up this site. I like the reference to Eva’s Hungarian Spectrum in the top right corner. 👍
Not a real problem but maybe typical for the first effort – which is really good!
Date and time of the comments look a bit strange to me ???
202113:47 of course means 2021 13.47
Which timezone are you in, István?
Just needs a space between the year and the hour; Istvan said the site is set up in Iceland so the same timezone as the UK, so an hour behind Hungary.
I am in Hungary and it should be CET. The settings I used in wordpress are UTC+1, I selected the way how to display date and time, but obviously this does not effect the comments section and UTC is shown – or the local time of the server, which is the same. The missing blank between date and time is obviously part of the template used. For the comment section there are no additional possibilities for changing time and display of time and date, I also miss the possibility to copy the direct link of the comment and the edit function for the user. I will look through settings, scripts, and other details when I find time to do. I just don’t know whether I’ll find it. I am not terrible bad with computers, but no professional and right now a complete beginner with wordpress.
Istvan,
The old Hungarian Spectrum could be mentioned in your welcome message.
Steven
I dedicated the item “about” to the roots, where Hungarian Spectrum is mentioned several times and quoted as well, while on “welcome” I tried to answer all the questions I was asked on HS before. The welcome message is an ordinary blog entry, which stays only a short time visible, moves down with every entry, and will be automatically moved to the archive as soon as the 11th page will be published, since it is not of lasting interest. The items on top with the page “about” and the link to Hungarian Spectrum will remain on top. I hope these thoughts are acceptable for you as well.
Thanks a lot, Istvan. This is great news, let´s make something good from it.
Well this is a nice surprise; I’ve been a bit crook the last week or so, and have been of the internet. I didn’t see Istvan’s offer to set this up. Koszonom Istvan. (and before wolfie tells me I’m not a proper Hungarian, yeah I know diacritcs).
@Phil (and totally OT):
As a German I can count my self lucky to have some diacritics on my keyboard.
It’s funny that many people here call me Wolfie – that’s the Jewish version of my name which I remember from a very nice Jewish restaurant that we visited many years ago in Miami Beach.
The official German version is Wolf though my wife calls me Wolfi.I tell Hungarians: Farkas vagyok!
And when I’m angry
Great work Istvan! Brilliant!
As mentioned at the moment I’m very occupied with something else, but when I have time I’ll try to provide content [have ideas about Coronavirus timeline for OV’s Hungary, incl.developments in measures, communiation, manipulations in data, etc.]
Noticed now that avatars stayed the same [at least mine, and some familiar ones!]
Thanks for your efforts in creating this site.
This is good. Happy to be part of this. Eva would be pleased! 😀😇
I’m very happy to see that the Hungarian Spectrum spirit lives on! Many thanks to István for setting up this blog. Hopefully enough HS regulars will drop by and do their bit to make Hungarian News a great place for summaries and analysis of Hungarian politics. I myself was only a very occasional commentator in HS, feeling that most of what I could add had already been said, but I will endeavour to become a more frequent commentator here.
