Kings and Saints

Our incomparable minister of human resources Miklós Kásler has not only proven that he is hardly interested in doing his job, but is again following his hobby: The falsification of Hungarian history. Éva covered this hobby several times already and again Kásler did everything to get into the news with this topic. In the beginning of last month Kásler made a really great agreement: “Hungarian researchers have access to archaeological bone finds that may be suitable for raising the archaeo-genetic studies of the peoples related to the alleged Hungarian settlers in the North Caucasus to a higher level,” the minister of health, social affairs, education, culture, and employment told the press, while in Hungary close to 200 died every day through the pandemic and the minister followed his hobby only ►HU.

Let’s turn to history and to the Hungarian Golden Bull. Hungarian, because there had been quite a lot of them. On the most important decrees, as we would translate in our days the Latin word bulla, golden seals were used, from there they derive their name. This Golden Bull was issued in 1222. King András II was more or less forced by noblemen and the clergy to grant them rights. It is seen as a 1st step on the way to a constitution of Hungary to limit the unregulated powers of the ruling king. In his competence as minister Kásler decided that the 800 years birthday of the golden bull must be celebrated through the eyes of his own Magyarságkutató Intézet (Institute of Hungarian Research,) which he initiated as one of his 1st decisions as minister. I regard it as kind of funny BTW that a regime striving for unlimited power to celebrate this limitation of power. Centre of the celebration will be an exhibition called “Királyok és szentek” ►HU (Kings and Saints) in the former crowning city of Székesfehérvár. It should be opened in March 2022.

In December Kásler decided to hand over the scientific management for the exhibition to his Magyarságkutató Intézet without telling the reasons for this step. The National Museum ►EN, which falls into the capacity of the minister as well, was mainly responsible before and the Szent István Király Museum ►HU in ownership of the FIDESZ ruled city of Székesfehérvár participated as host before in Kings and Saints. So we may be sure that not the quite different views of the opposition concerning culture and science upset the minister.

Miklós Makoldi, director of the archaeological research centre of the Magyarságkutató Intézet was appointed as curator and he has made significant changes of structure and content to the exhibition and the catalogue, which has been for 90 % finished already. Makoldi has neither a degree in history nor one in any related discipline. He declares that he is mainly interested in Avar equestrian burials. His greatest project yet was the movie Battle of Pozsony, where he was employed as expert, which stirred a serious scandal ►EN.

Makoldi removed from the exhibition the parts concerning the people already living in the Carpathian Basin during the arrival of the Magyar tribes and the migration of foreign groups settling in Hungary during the Árpádian period, especially Jews and Muslims. Following to this interference 15 scientists from relevant fields as archaeologists, historian of different disciplines, archivists, and a philologist stepped out of the project according to the news that broke January 11th. ” Unacceptable, what happened. I’ve been in the field for a long time, but I’ve never seen a similar procedure, either at home or abroad” said László Révész, archaeologist, museologist, and head of the department of archaeology of the University of Szeged ►HU.

On the other hand, two employees of the archaeo-genetic research centre of the Magyarságkutató Intézet, Tibor Török and Endre Neparáczki were introduced as new authors. They have been working on the genetic proof of Kásler’s pet project, the by the extreme right by reasons I never understood so much desired Hun-Hungarian kinship in recent years, and the identification of the “Árpád home gene” in 2020 was partly associated with their name ►HU. Also in another “research” the name Neparáczki pops up, about the Árpád dynasty: “The dynasty was formed 4 500 years ago in the northern part of the ancient Bactria, today’s Afghanistan” Miklós Kásler declared ►HU. How can it be that reputed scientists don’t want to work for those extraordinary “researchers?”

Following to these facts the Magyarságkutató Intézet released a press statement about “several misleading articles about Kings and Saints [….] in the opposition press.” The press statement confirms the appointment of Makoldi, and that the 2 museums and the Magyarságkutató Intézet would not interfere with the exhibition ►HU. Since Makoldi is the problem and he does exactly what he is expected to do by the minister this could be true.

In the meanwhile 25 researchers signed this statement ►HU: “We are a scientific community. In many ways, our values and temperaments may be different, our political preferences may be different, and we may see the present, and the past, differently. Yet we value each other, stand up for each other, and want our research findings and interpretations to appear side by side. We undertook to participate in this workflow with the knowledge of each other – editors and authors. Diverse work has been created. After the departure of the editors and the replacement of a significant number of authors, this diversity was damaged, and the commitment to our scientific community did not allow us to continue to be involved in the business. ” …. “You [minister, heads of museums, and the institute] know that several of us waited as long as we could and looked for an opportunity to reach an agreement. We wanted to save the consensus around the catalogue and the exhibition, to avoid public scandal, and in particular to treat our move as a political demonstration by the press and public life. That this is not the case is not our responsibility and will cause serious damage not only to the catalogue and exhibition but also to the memory of our kings and saints.”

The falsification of history will not be stopped. But it will not happen in the name of researchers. Our taxes again will be burned in favour of the strange hobby of the minister of human resources, and in the sense of the ideology of the ruler – how could Muslims settle in Hungary in times Hungarian kings still were declared to be saints?

Is the reporting on the current FIDESZ stuff useful?
Eva has acted along this concept, too, to my deep disappointment.

A solid support for a promising opposition is more important than giving even a modest publicity to the FIDESZ affairs?

Let us hear the positive messages of Marki-Zay Peter.

He is the best hope, and disregard the campaign against him

As a more progressive Catholic I find Márki-Zay very confusing on so many things. This is particularly the case since he lived here in the USA as a practicing Catholic and clearly observed our nightmare of child molestation within our church.

Clearly he knows that so many Catholics have stopped attending mass that it has accelerated the closure of Churches in the USA. He is not a stupid man in the least and must have his own concerns about why the Catholic Church in Hungary has not admitted to having similar problems. I think it is next to impossible that a thoughtful man like Márki-Zay being a Catholic in and having lived in the USA never watched the watched the film Spotlight. Spotlight won the Academy Award for Best Picture, along with Best Original Screenplay in 2015 and it dramatically depicted the fight of journalists in Boston to expose the organizational crimes of our Church hierarchy here in the USA that has since gone global. He has said nothing about a civil probe for similar crimes in the Hungarian Church. Contrary to SandF who wants to hear “positive messaging from Márki-Zay l want to hear both the good and the bad, but I do agree he is right now the best hope for Hungary to get rid of the Orban Mafia state.

I thought the post by Istvan about Human Resources Minister Miklós Kásler was excellent. Part of the fight against Fidesz is also on the level of culture, history, and fantastic nationalism Orban promotes in order to keep stealing the peoples money for himself and his oligarchs.

With less words, let us try to motivate our friends to vote for liberty in Hungary.

Free of OV’s polarization and deceit.

Honestly, since when is MZP a model for freedom, just the fact that he is promoting to be the best Christian, and therefore the better PM already disqualifies him as a promotor for liberty. MZP will hopefully not get free play if he gets elected, control is necessary by the parties of the coalition.
I don´t need hollow calls for “positive messages”.

Try to find faults in OV, instead of smearing MZP.
MZP is a decent man.

I cannot take Kásler seriously neither as a person nor as a minister only his office is the power. You can’t write about Kásler seriously, at least I can’t. But I have prayed that Kásler will get well again …

The most important takeaway from this story is how everything works in Orbanistan, ie. no science, reason or morals count against the will of the regime, however silly, absurd or detrimental the latter may be. This way often half baked to insane policies are rammed through with hugely wasteful or deadly results, eg. Kasler’s clearing of 30 000 hospital beds in expectation of the Covid patients to come.
Ditto for the 16 000 (?) ventilators, the Chinese vaccine used for the above 65 age group, etc.
Add the general chaos and deterioration of the healthcare system during the 11 years of orbánjárás*.
* tatárjárás is the Hu term for the devastating mongol invasions in the 13th century.
