Well I don’t know if Kyiv is going to fall tomorrow, but it is obvious there is a lack of…
Hungarian News temporary down and not working properly
My excuses for the technical problems that are occurring since Monday. As I wrote in a comment I suspected an automatic update of WP that occurred shortly after the last known comment having caused the loss of an entire post. This update was just a co-incidence. In fact the host provider exchanged servers and had provided an old backup, so that the entire website was set back in time. More errors occurred and another backset in time happened and the earlier lost post including comments reappeared, just everything what happened later vanished when the old server was reconnected. The technical staff of the host provider worked on the problem and I hope they got it fixed now.
Good to have the site back and working again!
Well if that is all that happened you are in good shape, Spotify was knocked out by pissed off Russians for a while but I was able to recover all my playlists. Thanks for your efforts.
Good that you are back and you have retrieved deleted content! Hopefully there was no attack …
OT – Regarding the Kiev mini-conference involving Morawiecky and Fiala – What response do you see in Hungary? And does Orbán’s media machine still talk about being influential in V4?
There was a article, if I recall correctly in the Washington Post indicating a profound split now between Poland and Hungary over weapons for Ukraine. PiS according to that article has found US support now critical to protect itself from Russia, and apparently is now talking up democratic values, any illiberal rhetoric is unwelcome. I honestly have lost count of how many US forces are there now, my own daughter among them. I know we have just sent over a full US Army Combat aviation brigade with assault helicopters all equipped with antitank weapons on the border.
The Poles seem to be anticipating a Russian attack at some point as this war evolves. They have nothing bad to say about the USA, except over the no fly zone. That could still happen if the Russians try to bomb weapons stashed near the border with Ukraine to be transferred. Then we are going down the slippery slope to a full NATO v Russia war.
A slippery slope it is allright! It seems the Poles go all-in on the Nato/EU siding, for now. They aren’t choosy about how their border is fortified and (given the Polish govt. plane-crash, under doubious circumstances, that killed his twin brother in Russia), VP Kaczynski has a strong personal motive for showing teeth.
I have watched, from a distance, how British, Italian, Baltic, Greek, ex-Ukrainian, anonymized ex-Warsaw freighters, and Nordic air lifters and personnel carriers, contribute to the air bridge into Poland – app. 20 flights per day and full tanker support, not to mention all the different monitoring operators. Also, a joint Scandinavian, German, British, Dutch, Belgian, Polish and the 3 Baltic countries naval force operates in the Baltic Sea, keeping Russia at bay, there.
I think it would be relevant to hear an official Hungarian comment on their part in this massive cooperation – Presuming they have some communication with the outside world, of course.
Having lived in Scandinavia, it looks as if the present Nato naval-scenario must be a Russian nightmare come true. There’s no way they can keep Kaliningrad and Petrograd if the neighbors decide to seize.
When you see how Russian forces are having a hard time in Ukraine, I cannot imagine how poorly they would perform against NATO.
It gives hope, but is a terrible thread as well. Putin for sure understood that fighting against a way smaller neighbour with a not too good equipped army is nothing compared to fight against the largest defence alliance the world has ever seen. But still he has not used any weapons of mass destruction, which are not limited to the nuclear ones. Putin is not the man who accepts a compromise. He expected to be welcomed by the Russian speaking part of the population with flowers, exchange the government within a week and rule over Ukraine as he rules already over Belarus with those who oppose locked up. Next step the Baltic states. But it didn’t work out! Putin had a chance when he still sat with Macron or Scholz at that long table. Those days it was still easy to tell about manoeuvres, to bring the troops back into the barracks without losing his face. He had a chance to get something from NATO or EU. But he wanted more, he wanted a satellite state. Now he knows that he can’t reach this, he understood that Ukrainians will not allow him to govern over the country. He might succeed in conquering the space, but not the people. Putin wanted to get into the books of history as the man who re-united the Russian empire of 1914 or the Soviet empire of 1988. Instead he faces to be compared to Brezhnev and his Afghanistan occupation, to a 10 year long failure, just with so many more dead Russian soldiers. Nothing Putin is waiting for. And since he is not used to give in he is forming a serious threat to all of us.

Wednesday morning I found nothing in Magyar Nemzet, but 888.hu reportes the meeting. Their explanation of Orbàn’s absence however, was not that he’s busy with the national holiday, but to the effect that Hu will not supply weapons or send soldiers in Ukr there is no point for Orbàn to visit (even in an armored minibus and flack jacket? – my comment).
Further to my 11.17 comment
888.hu and the Orbàn propaganda machine is pushing hard the lie that the left wants to send Hu soldiers into Ukr always omitting the second half of MZP’s statement “if NATO decides so”.
I.e. a MZP government will honor a NATO request, while the duplicitous and treacherous O1G will not.
Not to forget the 3rd part that MZP doesn’t expect this NATO decision.
The problem with Orbàn’s gypsy horse trader mentality of “we are in only for the money” (a present feature in the Hu National psyche too) is that it weakens the Alliance. In the same vein the Fid supporters traditionally hold a deep grudge against the Americans for not fighting off the Russians in Hu in 1956.
With allies like Orbàn Europe doesn’t need enemies.
